What is Diquat used for?
Diquat dibromide is a non-selective contact algicide, defoliant, desiccant and herbicide. As a herbicide/algicide it is used to control broadleaf and grassy weeds in non-crop (including residential) and aquatic areas. As a desiccant/defoliant, it is used on seed crops and potatoes.
Will diquat herbicide harm fish?
There are no restrictions on swimming or eating fish from water bodies treated with diquat. Treated water should not be used for drinking water for one to three days, depending on the concentration used in the treatment.

How do you mix Weedtrine D?
Weedtrine-D is a broad range aquatic herbicide that controls duckweed, coontail, elodea, naiad, pondweed and milfoil on small ponds. Simply Mix 1 gallon of Weedtrine-D with 3 gallons of water and 8 oz of cygnet spray adjuvant and spray directly onto the aquatic vegetation.
Why is diquat banned?
Major potato desiccant diquat is set to be banned due to concerns related to the exposure of bystanders and residents and also its effect on bird life, with growers only likely to have at most one more season’s use of the product.
Is diquat harmful to humans?
* Exposure to large amounts of Diquat Dibromide may cause severe poisoning with nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, tremors, convulsions, and even death. * Repeated exposure to Diquat Dibromide may cause clouding of the eye lenses (cataracts). * Repeated exposure may damage the fingernails, and cause cracked skin.
Does diquat stay in soil?
It is used to desiccate potato vines and seed crops, to control flowering of sugarcane, and for industrial and aquatic weed control. It is not residual; that is, it does not leave any trace of herbicide on or in plants, soil, or water.
Is diquat safer than glyphosate?
Glyphosate is often the better choice as a non-selective weed killer than Diquat Dibromide. This is because Glyphosate infiltrates plant systems and kills weeds down to the root, while Diquat Dibromide only attacks portions of the plant it is sprayed on.
