What products have SDS?
What products require an SDS? Any product that is considered a hazardous chemical requires a safety data sheet. A hazardous chemical, as defined by the Hazard Communication Standard (HCS), is any chemical which can cause a physical or a health hazard.
How often should a manufacturer update a products SDS?

SDSs will be required to be updated within 90 days of the supplier being aware of the new information. If you purchase a product within this 90 day time period, the supplier must inform you of the significant new data and the date on which it became available in writing.
Where should a new or updated SDS be sent?
If the hazard classification changes based on the OSHA HCS revisions to incorporate the GHS criteria, facilities that originally submitted MSDSs (SDSs) must subsequently submit a revised MSDS (SDS) to the LEPC, the SERC, and the local fire department.
When was the SDS last revised?
The Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) (29 CFR 1910.1200(g)), revised in 2012, requires that the chemical manufacturer, distributor, or importer provide Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) (formerly MSDSs or Material Safety Data Sheets) for each hazardous chemical to downstream users to communicate information on these hazards.
Are SDS required for consumer products?
OSHA does not require that SDSs be provided to purchasers of household consumer products when the products are used in the workplace in the same manner that a consumer would use them, such as where the duration, frequency of use and exposure is not greater than what the typical consumer would experience.
Is SDS mandatory?
As required under the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard 29 CFR 1910.1200, a safety data sheet (SDS) must precede or accompany the initial shipment of any hazardous material defined as such under the Act. For items previously ordered, an SDS must also be supplied if the SDS has changed since the previous shipment.
Do SDS have an expiry date?
The SDS must accompany the first shipment of chemicals. Any updated SDS should be sent within three months of any new and significant information regarding the given hazardous chemical. So, yes, safety data sheets do expire.
How often do safety data sheets need to be updated?

It is desirable but not mandatory for suppliers to provide updated SDS for products sold prior to that timeframe. However, in work places that are subject to the Canada Labour Code, the SDS must be reviewed and updated at least every 3 years.
