What is it like to be a student at the Naval Academy?
All midshipmen live in Bancroft Hall, an immense dormitory complex. However, mids eat, sleep, study, drill, play and compete as teams as a company. They learn to trust and rely on each other. This all mimics life in the Navy and Marine Corps where small unit cohesion is crucial.
What is I day at the Naval Academy?
Induction Day or I-Day is the official name for the first day of Plebe Summer at the United States Naval Academy. Typically held in late June or early July, this is the day on which the members of the newest Naval Academy class arrive in Annapolis; for most, it is also their first day in the military.
Do you get breaks at the Naval Academy?
The Naval Academy’s combined academic, military and physical development programs demand a lot of effort, requiring you to spend more time on campus than the typical civilian college student. But midshipmen enjoy Christmas and summer vacations (leave) plus shorter periods of time off (liberty).
Can you have your phone at the Naval Academy?
Midshipmen are allowed to use their cell phones, but cannot walk and be on the phone when in uniform. During Plebe Summer, they will get three phone calls home for about 20 minutes each time.

How is the food at USNA?
This nutritionally balanced, daily diet of 3,500 – 4,000 calories per midshipman is prepared at a government-authorized individual ration allowance of $12.30 a day. All meat is U.S. Choice, vegetables are Grade A Fancy, and freshly baked breads and pastries arrive each day.
